How does your process work?

I will come into your workplace at your desk and do a complete assessment of how you work. I look at how your office is arranged (are things you use most often at arm's reach? is there too much clutter? do you have the proper furniture? etc.). I also look inside the drawers, on the floor, and everywhere else you have stashed paper. I ask a lot of questions about how you work (what type of filing system do you use? how do you handle your mail? how do you prioritize? how do you handle interruptions? how do you remember to do things, etc.).

Once the assessment is over (usually about 2 hours), I'll create your File Index (your filing system). And I'll start to coach you on how to let go of paper, how to touch it the first time and do something with it. You're left with homework to begin clearing the clutter (although most people won't do it until I return). I also leave you a list of organizing supplies you'll need to order. (Oftentimes it works best if I send you the supply order in advance so we can continue working on the first visit.)

We'll clear the clutter, and set up systems that will be easy for you to maintain. I'll also help you incorporate technology efficiently and look at your processes to see if we can streamline anywhere. This is what makes my business unique from most organizers.

I try to finish as much as possible in one session, so you'll need to clear your calendar. If you're working in an intense environment and you will be interrupted, it's best to work on the weekend. How many and how long depends on each individual situation. In the past, it's taken anywhere from 10 to 20 hours. Sometimes I'll work on my own, and you'll be able to keep working.

Do you work with groups?

Absolutely! Click here to learn more about how this work.

Do you work with individuals or just big businesses?

I will work with anyone who has decided to get their life back and work smarter. This includes, and is not limited to, corporate employees, small business owners and their staff, and anyone working out of their home.

I also have a special 6-week program for groups of 10 or more people.

I cleared my office but the clutter came back. What happened?

This is a common problem. The problem is that you didn't create a good system for dealing with paperflow. I will teach you how to do this. The key is to establish places to put the things you really need to keep. But if you don't practice good maintenance, no system will help you.

Do you do any type of followup?

Yes, I do. After the process of getting you organized is complete, I'll call you periodically to check on you.  After that, I may do impromptu visits and just show up at your office (at no charge). If I see that you're reverting back to your old habits, we can discuss putting you on a regular fee-based maintenance plan. I've had so much success with clients that I've only had to do this once.

I know I don't use technology to its fullest. How can you help me with that?

You are not alone in this. About 80% of users use less than 20% of the software's capabilities. I look at how you work, and how you use technology to do that work. We work together developing better administrative processes and using technology to help you streamline.

I am an expert in Microsoft® Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. I will also help you with other technologies that can make your job easier (i.e., PC banking; Winfax PRO; Quickbooks for keeping your books; etc.). On products such as QuickBooks, I may make the recommendation that you use it, but I will refer you to one of my other resources (who is expert with it) if you need training and help setting it up.

But I know where everything is in my office? Why should I get organized?

I have to help you understand that even if you know about where everything is, it still takes you longer to get to it when you need it. And if you need everything related to one subject, you'd never be able to get it together quickly. But most important, can anyone else find it if something happened to you? Would you want your project to fall to pieces or your business to fail because no one could make any sense out of the chaos in your office? Of course you don't.

When you're unorganized, you don't look like you know what you're doing (you don't look like you're on top of things); few people have confidence in your commitments; you're wasting time; and you're dealing with a lot of unnecessary stress.

How Do You Charge?

My fees vary by the type of client. Click here for my fee schedule, including workshop fees.
