NOTICE: If you have a PayPal account, you may receive bogus e-mails asking
for your personal data. Do not be fooled. These messages are NOT coming from
PayPal!
Subject line is PayPaI Official Notice
(instead of PayPal, it's PayPaI)
"PayPal is
constantly looking to increase security for all of our users. To ensure the
integrity of our payment network, we periodically review accounts.
Your account will
be placed on restricted status..."
The message will
provide you with a link to a site to verify all your banking information.
STOP: PayPal will never send you an e-mail
asking you to submit your personal data.
If you click on the
link, the address line will start with http://. PayPal's official site
begins with https://, notice the "s" for secured. Also, the real PayPal site
has the "secure lock" down in the system tray where it should be. The fake
site has a fake lock at the top, right-hand corner.
When you receive this type of e-mail, please take a
moment and forward it to
spoof.
On another
note, PayPal and its representatives will NEVER ask you to reveal your
password. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to this policy. If anyone claiming to work
for PayPal asks for your password under any circumstances, by email or by
phone, please refuse and immediately contact us via webform at
https://www.paypal.com/wf/f=sa_pass.
Be careful with
your data. Always triple-check the source requesting it.
